Did GEN 3 swap on 93t chasis, no Power steering, help please

Hello,

I recently had my 93t's engine replaced for a 98 GEN 3 engine.

Now, I don't have power steering. Any ideas as to why?

Also, I know Ty Saxson from TCS Motorsports did the same swap into his
93t, and doesnt' have power steering either.

I'm using the 98 engine harness/ECU, and the 93t body harness. I was told that I could use the 93t body harness b/c the 93+ cars were pretty much plug and play with the GEN3 harness.

I'm sure someone has run into this problem. Didn't Brian Hill swap a GEN3 into his 93t? Maybe he didnt' have power steering though.

Thanks!

Does your gen3 body harness have a power steering relay? It looks like it's normally located in the engine bay fusebox for some reason. If your gen3 body harness came from a car without power steering, this relay (and possibly supporting wiring) won't be there.

I find with these swaps, it's easier to modify the engine harness, and simply repin the 22pin ecu plug on the body harness.

wow.. ok.. I think we may have something here. The power steering relay and most of the associate power steering stuff is in the frunk. I kept the 93t body harness, but of course used the 98 GEN 3 engine harness, and ECU to the engine fuse box.

I'm trying to find out if my clip was originally equiped with power steering. I'm also going to take a look at my spare 98 body harness to see if there is anything on there that looks like it's related to power steering.

I don't even know were to repin.. b/c I'm not sure if the ECU just doesnt have power steering wires coming out of it, or not. I'm guessing it does not, and that I need to repin in order to get it to work.

thanks!

well.. I actually really like it.. and w/o it.. it's a pain. I don't mind not having it in my MK1.. actually like it w/o power steering for my MK1.. But,the MK2 is another story.. it's so nice in the MK2. Plus, I think there is a difference b/t a car w/o power steering that doesn't have power steering equipment, and a car that is w/o power steering and has power steering equipment. The car was not designed not to have it, making it even tougher to deal with.

I need to get this fixed ASAP.

I heard the steering racks are different for cars with power steering compared to those without. An MKII without power steering is actually nice. Instead of bothering with all the wires, I would convert to a non power steering rack and it would be even better.

That's because you have a power steering rack with out the pump actually working. So get a non power steering rack, and it will feel lighter.

good to hear. this was the first time I've read the power steering fail with a swap. but then again I had my wiring sent out, so I never had to worry about it.

I have a 98 body harness for sale if you end up wanting to go that route. Otherwise, I'm not sure as I have a 93t chasis.

thanks for the offer however, i don't think there is anything wrong with the body harness. i'm getting 12v at the IGN relay just nut at the coil. I'm getting 5 volts at the igniter.

does anyone know how to test the relay? or any advise?

thanks
