I know what you mean the one I found was $14000 thats why I was thinking it would be easier to build one, I've been trying to find research on the celica tranny because I was wondering if the newer six speed shared any similarities in the case as the e153 because if they do I'm sure some machining and aftermarket gears and LSD could be utilized to build a strong properly geared 6 spd

If the top speed was closer to 170mph I would be all over some sort of gearing change. As I've been thinking about ways to increase the top speed of the car. Anyone done any of these kinds of gear set ups that could chime in and confirm any of this?

I am interested about the gear ratio change as well, I tore my tranny apart to fix it for now and ran into some big time issues and I thought with how much I have to change that changing the ratio would help alot for now, but on complete tear down I found that the #4 driven gear is chipped even though it never made noise or vibration, both the front and rear output shaft bearings are shot and the #2 syncro and the stop rings and keys were worn out.

You also have the option of throwing in a taller final drive and lowering (reletively) 3rd & 4th gear. That way you could pull like mad in the middle gears, cruise at a nice low rpm in 5th, have an improved top speed, & at the same time you would decrease traction problems in 1st & 2nd.

I'm not all that familiar with Toyota engine and transmissions families so there mightbe some flaws in my reasoning. The E series tranny is bolted up to the gze, so I assume the C & E series trannies will both bolt right up to 4age's and 3sg's alike. If that's the case, maybe a C series with beefed up syncros and cryo & shotpeened gears could be an option?

For an effect similar to the first idea, you could put a taller final drive in it to achieve almost identical ratios in 2nd - 5th with a nice tall 6th and 1st gear. Maybe that isn't a viable option for a turbo 3sg because of the tranny strength, but maybe it is for an NA.

as far as my knowledge goes I thought the ze's used a c52 and also that the bellhousing bolt patterns are different between the 3s and ge. Either way I've torn down a c50, c52 and now an e153 and the guts of the e153 are twice the size of the c series its just that the 91-93 transmisson were weak on the second gear because of the syncro design but I may just replace what I need and build a transmission for my application in the near future

But then you'd have to buy a lotus tranny O_O. Other than that you'd have to find another tranny and make it work with an adapter plate. Maybe the box out of a mk3 would fit? but I hear those a pretty weak.
you wouldnt be buying a lotus tranny, 100% toyota. from the v6 camry motor to the 6 speed manual gearbox.

tranny by aisin/toyota and pressure plate and flywheel custom made by lotus to fit.

EDIT: dont know if the tranny code...bc16 maybe not sure.
