Question Should i stay away?

Went to look at a 91 turbo t-top today. The car had a tree fall on it, but everything has been replaced minus the windshield. Slave cylinder is brand new, but leaking for some reason. The car starts right up and idles fine, but smokes bad (grey) when car first starts up. After it warms up it stops smoking, but smokes really bad when you rev it. The guys says its just cause the gas is really old, and it will stop if it gets some new gas in it. Does this sound like the rings are going bad? and for $2000 is it something i should consider?

Sounds like bad valve seals and if so other seals are about to go bad as well. With that much physical damage then possably needing an engine rebuild soon I'd pass on that price.

pass

avoid it. Even with a good used example, you're looking at a lot of time and money to get that thing running right. If it was say a grand, it _might_ be worth it if this is your 2nd or 3rd mr2 (read marquee and model specific experience). If this is your first, pass and find a better example.

That's just my 2 cents. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a good starting point for any project.

On a side note, gas does not usually spoile in 3 months. I've seen gas go several years before it really turned to varnish.

Or if you had another motor on hand to swap in it might be worth your time...but I dont think many people do
