Cams recommendations for my setup?
I'm looking to install a set of cams in the mr2. However, i'm new to this platform and I'm not familiar with what cams would work best for my setup (coming from a pushrod v8 knowledgebase so i'm way off).
My current setup is Forged motor Ported/Polished heads with oversized valves Rest of valvetrain is stock Stock Intake mani (i've heard it's not too potent) Borg Warner s256 All supporting stuff I will be building a top end monster basically, but do not want it to fall off boost big time every time i shift, that would get very annoying Would HKS 272 -sized cams (not necessarily hks, but approxiately that size cam) be best suited for my setup? Also, what would you guys recommend for the rest of the valvetrain? And how high would I be revving this thing? Thanks in advance! -Mike Last edited by MDoe8; 10-19-2009 at 11:55 PM.. |

Forgot to mention i've got cam gears as well. So I'll need cams, valvesprings, retainers, and that's it correct? (gotta get mind out of v8 thinking, I almost said pushrods!)

264's or 272's would work well with your setup. I'd personally go with the 264's. I'm not sure which springs were used in your head and if it's shim over bucket or shim under bucket. But typically you can tune for a redline of around 8000-8500 pretty safely on a built 3sgte head. The stock gen2 intake manifold is going to be a fairly big restriction for you if you're planning on getting past around 350whp. Could always tune on your current setup to see what it will make and then do cams and intake manifold later down the line, but then you end up paying for tuning twice.

As far as i know, aside from the oversized valves, the valvetrain is 100% stock otherwise. So ported heads, oversized valves, stock springs/retainers/cams/etc.
Any recommendations for intake manifolds? |

Some people set redline up to around 8500 on the stock valvetrain. Thats kind of pushing it to the edge. If it were me I'd set it to 8k and worry more about the tune just to be on the safe side.
Talk to Matt from Dedicated Motorsports. He will build you one hell of an intake manifold. You can reach him at dedicatedmotorsports@gmail.com, tell him I referred you He's one of the most honest and straight forward guys in the business. |

8k on stock valvetrain eh? Maybe i'll rev mine that high now and see if it likes it. I need to look into my tune and see how it's set up currently. Just hope the boost creep doesn't get too bad. It's spiking to over 20 psi now and its set on wastegate pressure only
