OK so I got the compression test done, we pumped for 6 sec on each cylinder and the readings were: cylinder #1 170 psi, #2 165 psi, #3 170 psi, #4 165 psi. We also pulled the cel code and it was code 35 which is the turbo pressure meter. We did some research on the forums and we could'nt find any info. regarding code 35. We also tried to look up what the turbo pressure meter was but we didnt have any luck. If anyone can give me some info it'll be greatly appreciated, Thanks

hmm, well it's good news that you have good compression on all cylinders.

Have you looked at your coolant or oil? Just make sure none of it is mixing together, if it is that would point to a bad headgasket.

When valve seals tend to start going bad the car smokes immediately after start up, but doesn't really smoke when it is being driven.

The fact that you say it doesn't really smoke when driving and only idling, and you have good compression on all cylinders, still pretty much convinces that it's the seals in the turbo.

I recently did my oil change and I didn't see any coolant in the oil, I was having the smoking issue at that time. I'll probably check into the coolant tomorrow.
I've been undecisive about what to replace/fix, I've been looking into purchasing a ct20b but because money is so tight I don't want to spend money on something and not fix the smoking issue. So I'm kind of stuck, I've also considered to just rebuild the turbo but not sure. Any suggestions what any of you would do?

So what would be the cheaper thing to do right now at this point? Getting the turbo rebuilt?

Yeah if you get the turbo rebuilt professionally it will run you about $300 bucks or so.

Did you look at it? Make sure it's at least connected before jumping to any conclusions. It's a little black box with a small port sticking downwards for the vacuum line hookup. It should be right in the same area where the diagnostics box is.

Still havent been able to solve any of the issues. But I plan on replacing the turbo and getting a headgasket soon.

I have a Greddy EBC so could that be an issue to the code 35

Doubt it, it's probably unplugged, have you checked it yet? I have the greddy ebc and it works fine. No CEL's should be created from that. Why are you replacing the headgasket?

I had the car looked at a little bit when I was getting my emissions done and the mechanic said I have a leak I checked the undercarriage also and I saw the leak. I plan on buying the TRD headgasket.

The code 35 is an open or short circuit in turbocharging sensor pressure sensor signal

If you want ive got the toyota service manual page on checking pins for continuity but is your boost sensor connected to a vac hose from the intake?

I was looking at it the other day and for some reason that hose is tapped with a screw. so the hose that's coming down from the boost sensor has to go to the intake manifold or the intake itself.

Sound like a worn out turbo, as far as the smoke goes.
The CEL in your situation is most likely coming on due to an overboost situation. Verify the boost level and wastegate operation, then investigate the map sensorand wiring for the map sensor.
