3S-GTE JDM 3rd Gen Turbo Engine car has a hard time reving past 3000 rpms

finaly got my car started yesterday! it was pretty amazing. but when your driving it, it has a hard time taking gas at 3000 rpms but after you get past that at 5000 rpms it blowed out some smoke that was black. ive got no clue what could be causing this. so your guess is as good as mine. lol

could this be caused by the speedo not being hooked up?
