FCD and MBC install questions

Hi all,

I can't seem to get any help on the german board so i thought i'd try my luck here . First off I would like to know whether anyone here knows how to wire this FCD in:

LED-FCD in the correct fashion. I really don't want to use trial and error here.

Secondly I have just received my Pro-Z MBC and I'm not quite sure about the install here either. I know it needs to be placed between the hose coming from the compressor housing and going to the wastegate actuator, but what is with the hose going from the actuator to the T-VSV?? Does that need to be capped or does it stay as it is or what??

I can rebuild my motor in my sleep but this **** has me stumped!

you need to cap that hose going from the actuator going to the T-VSV otherwise your car will be boosting at at least 14.4 psi. Cap it off, and you will have a manageable psi that you can adjust.

Use a plastic cap, or if you cant find one, a bolt that you can shove in there if need be.

cool guys! So I should just plug the hose that comes from the wastegate and goes to the T-VSV! Good to know.

Any tips on the FCD???

are you on a gen2 3sgte or a gen3 3sgte? (gen2 is the one that has TOYOTA on the valve cover).

Bakky! I've been here for years and you think I don't know how to tell a GEn2 from a Gen3?? You disappoint me my friend

It's a Gen2. The thing would be complete tits on a Gen3!

Hehe, you never know. I get some gen2 people telling me their motor is a Gen1 sometimes

On a gen2 I personally wouldn't even bother with an FCD. You can simply disable fuel cut by pulling the vacuum hose from the MAP sensor (pressure sensor) and plugging it. This will have absolutely no effect on the way the car runs on a Gen2 other than disabling fuel cut because the Gen2 ECU relies on the AFM for an air flow signal and doesn't use the MAP sensor for anything except fuel cut.

If you want to keep fuel cut and simply raise it up a little higher than stock level, your only choice is an FCD. As far as how to wire that one in though I'm not too sure. Been a long time since I've messed with an FCD.

It tells you exactly how to install it in your link.

On a 91 3SGTE, the other two are pin 1 (VC) and pin 13 (PIM) of the 16-pin ECU plug. Don't know which side of the connector is pin #1? Hint : pin #7 is missing, top row is 1 thru 8, bottom row 9 thru 16.
If you can't follow the pin location description, they are clearly labelled in the BGB:

It even gives you a wiring diagram:

Edit:
And for reference sake: When installing a spring loaded MBC, the boost source is always opposite the spring. Once boost pressure overpowers spring pressure, the ball is lifted off the seat to control the wastegate, which should be adjacent to the spring.

Hey Sang,

what I don't know is if I cut the PIM Wire and place the FCD between (what I expect) or just tee in between PIM and +5VDC?? I'm no good a reading circuit diagramms to be honest. That's why I have to ask!

if you are scarred to splice, just run to autozone or advanced and pick up what came with my HKS FCD, splicing clips....my favorite electrical invention

basically, they are great because you dont need to solder or twist or sleeve the wire in with the wire you are tapping, you just slide the wire you want to include into the clip and the otherside of the clip wraps around the wire you will tap, close the clip cover and squeeze with a set of pliers and BAM! nice professional splice without worry about cutting the wire by accident (great if you tapped the wrong wire). Just make sure you get the right gauge of clip for the wire.

to splice, the easiest way is just to unbolt your ecu from the firwall and then look at your harness plugs as shown in the diagram, grab the appropriate wire and feel it all the way up to where you feel comfortable splicing in the clip for mounting.

Hope this some what helps, i installed mine like 3-4 yrs ago now and did it in 20 minutes while smoking a cig.

My HKS is an adjustable FCD, just like this (minus LED). I did not T any one of my three wires with on another.

Basically each wire went to a dedicated wire off of my ECU Wiring harness (dedicated somewhat).

Tapping it into the ECU really isnt hard, just unbolt the entire ECY so you can use that diagram Sang provided.

just unplug the harness from the ECU, set the ECU to the side, there is some play room with the harness so you can pull on the wire loom a bit.

I tapped each respective wire of the FCD into each respective wire on the ECU.

HKS Insall Guide:

http://www.hksusa.com/content/pdf1793.pdf

Prostreet install:

HKS FCD in 91 MR2 Turbo [Archive] - My Pro Street

Just run through these installs for the FCD which is also adjustable.

EDIT: i believe the answer to your question of where to provide adjusted resistence is the map signal wire and that has to be "t'ed" as you say, basically on mine, i cut the wire and place the appropriate sides of the FCD inline between ecu and sensor.

just so you know it works as well, i hit above 16psi one day and it hit fuel cut :-)

and here is a picture of what you are asking (i think), crap like this is so easy if we can just see it hehe.

Image is just to show that the T'ed wire (this is for a starlet install)

I hope some of this helps. NO I HAVE NOT INSTALLED AN LED FCD, but i believe it is the same.

Ok so we're getting there Now the problem is I only have 3 wires!

One red coming off the 150Ohm resistor
One black coming off the 100Ohm resistor
One yellow coming off the trimmer and going through the LED

What I'm thinking is Black is ground, yellow goes to the ECU side of the PIM wire and red goes to the pressure sensor side of the PIM wire.
