RIMS

I'm thinking of putting a pair of rims on my car, I found ones that I like however I'm wondering if they will compermise some of the performance of the car. The rims are Boss 318 going to 17" any feedback would be greatly appreciated thanks.

What sizes are your wheels now? And what are the widths and offsets of the new ones you want?

the size of the new tire would be 205 40 17, the stock ones r on now and their 205 I believe as well, so the same widths will remain the same. I was more or less thinking of the weight of the rim because it is a black chrome rim. The overall tire size would remain the same keeping the speedo correct.

You don't know too much obviously. Do you know the name of the wheels? That would greatly help in knowing how much they weigh. 205 would be suitable for 6.5in to 7.5in probably. Just guestamating.

For the love of god. DON'T ORDER WHEELS UNTIL YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND OFFSET. Here are some snipets.

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types.

Zero Offset
The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly. We have test fitted thousands of different vehicles for proper fitment. Our extensive database allows our sales staff to offer you the perfect fit for your vehicle.

In short, it determines how far in, or out, a wheel sits in relation to the fender. Did you pick those wheels for cost, how they look, or some other reason? To be honest, those wheels are cheap(quality) as balls. Find something else. And they're way too big to look right on a 2.

but if i was to type in the year and make of the car and everything wouldnt that mean that the wheel would have 0 offset and will fit flush like stock if the width of the tir remains the same?

No. They don't calculate that for you. Sorry for using 240s as examples, but it's all I have.

15x7 +10

15x8 -20something

15x6 +40

Just so you get the general idea of what offset does. If you want a 7in wide wheel, I would suggest something like +25 to +30 offset. I don't know too much about fitment on MR2s, but that seems reasonable.

I see you want 17x8. For that I would use a 215 or 225 tire. probably +35 offset. But I would ask someone else that's more experienced with MR2s.

I feel like I'm posting that every day now.

And yes, those BOSS wheels are complete garbage.

Do you plan on buying the rest of the wheel later?
