What kind of minor or major differences are there between the 3 revisions for the gen3?

The gen3 and gen4 are pretty similar. People will sometimes us a gen4 with gen3 manifolds and electronics. Usually this is to replace a blown gen3. People will also use the gen3 exhaust manifold when they want to ditch the gen4's 1piece unit and go with a larger turbo.
Because gen4's aren't a direct replacement for anything, and because they aren't an easy pnp ugrade for any USDM car, you can often times find them cheaper than gen3's. I made the custom wiring harness for the gen4 pictured. Aside from that, they bolt in. |

A guy near me did a gen4 swap and it looked exactly like the motor in mr220v's picture, he seemed pretty happy with it.

They are very good engines just not te same beast as the 3sgte. Toyota designed for optimum performance (260hp) so not alot you can do to modify without sacrificing reliability. There are a number of issues with wiring and having correct ECU ect but that's similiar to what you would have with any other conversion. Really depends on what you are tryin to achieve. Thread posted only asked for pictures so who knows what his intensions are.

Internally they are strong. There way that one RickyB example that was making 400whp on stock internals. Because of the 9:1 compression, 400whp required aviation fuel.
For an all out build, 8.5:1 compression would be better, but for somebody trying to accomplish something on a limited budget, with more modest goals, the gen4 might get you a little better result. |
