What are you looking for? I have a gen 4 NA and a gen 5 GT. Most of the changes are cosmetic compared to the gen 3's if that is of any use.

This is the stock version before I started replacing parts and painting things up. Better pic quality than the phone camera shot above.

Wow, its really nice to see a close up picture of one of these. I am confused though, the last 2 engines posted above are not identical, which one is which?

Mine is a stock 3sgte for a MR2 the other is from a Caldina 3sgte. See why I mentioned above?
It's not all cosmetic changes either. Pistons, rods, turbo, intake, exhaust, ECU, ect, ect. How do I know this - my friend just installed one in his 90 MR2 and it took alot of research. jimb |

Thanks, I understand now. Tough though, its a choice if you rather have a nice clean view of the valve cover (makes engine bay look very neat) or have shorter intake piping?

The gen4 is somewhat similar to the gen3. The gen4 has a one-piece turbo/manifold, the different intake, a bit different cams, 9:1 compression (vs 8.5:1), and improved electronics. The block was also redesigned. The gen4 makes more power stock, and lags less. Last edited by mr220v; 09-07-2010 at 12:54 PM.. |

We're talking about the Gen4 3sgte, not the Rev4 mr2 with a 3sgte.
The gen4 3sgte only came in st215w Caldinas. Never in the mr2, or anything else for that matter. It had the sidefeed intake and was distributorless with coil on plug. No plug wires. You've got to be thinking rev4 and not gen4. Both of the motors you have pictured are gen3 3sgte's. |

Here's another gen4 3sgte conversion that was recently for sale:

MR2's came out in rev 3, 4 and 5's but engine was basically a gen3. The Caldina had the same rev but changed the engine from a gen3 to a gen4 and was not offered in the MR2 but people have converted. The terms of reference used are interchangable depending on which country you reside. Maybe we should ask what pics 'Mr2pride' is after because he asked for a gen4 not a rev4? jimb |

Since he's in the US, he's probably looking for the gen4, and not the rev4. We didn't get the last 2 or 3 revisions in this country, so the various mr2's rarely get referred to by their proper revision.

They didn't come here either but because we import many used Japanese cars they get filtered into the system. I see you have a number of rev4-5's in the US much like the UK boys but yours tend to be converted from clips because the JDM's are RH drive.
Sorry for the OFF topic ramble. jimb |
