Auto-x - 4/20/08 - Melrose park, IL
Salt creek is hosting an autox event this coming Sunday. It's in the same place as all the other clubs host their events, right off North Ave and 5th.
Maywood Park Autocross Information I ran with them most of last season with a different car, and never really saw any MR2's. I figured some more MR2 owners would definately make it a bit more fun. I've gotten anywhere between 6-9 runs, but considering this is their first event, it might be a bit busy. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going, since all I have is a set of all seasons on my stock 14's (60 series, ouch), but I might just run with these. (Unless someones got an extra set I can use for the day). Let me know if anyone plans on going. If there are a few other owners, I'll definately be there. |

Watching is fine. You'll have to sign a waiver thats about it. You could get a ride with people there as well, as long as you have a helmet. If you dont have a helmet, you can borrow one from someone or get one from the club hosting it (Salt creek doesnt have loaners, but most other clubs do).
I might have a couple friends going that usually bring extra helmets, if not, you MIGHT be able to borrow one when they're not running. I just took a look at the weather, and I know it could change since its about a week away, but its supposed to be 63 degrees with no rain, so thats definately a plus. Only bad part is you are a little far. If you dont mind the drive, it should be a good time to just enjoy the weather and watch/take pics of different cars. I really want to go, and I really cant lose anything, I just cant stand driving aggressively on these 60 series all seasons. |

Heres a few sites that I frequent reguarly to see what events are available:
Planet Torque - This guy's actually an MR2 owner thats on the other board. Theres quite a few clubs on there that you can go to. He's got links to their websites on there too. And its not only for IL, theres WI, IN, and MI as well. Salt creek - Local club that races usually in Maywood/Melrose Park. They usually have 1 event a season where they go to the Tire Rack in South Bend, IN. They've started doing high speed autocross but I havent tried it yet. Windy City Miata Club Most of the cars are Miata's, but not all of them. There is a small percentage of other cars that show up, and they dont mind. Only bad part about this group is they class everything that is NOT a miata into 2 groups. If you've got an NA 4 cylinder, you'll be in the lower class, anything else is in the higher class. I've gotten as many as 11 runs though, with 3 fun runs, for like $30. I havent seen any other club that has given this many runs. I have run with like Tri-State and Central IL region, both of those clubs can be found on Planet-torque. You will need a helmet. I bought one with a SNELL 2005 rating a year ago for $110 at a local motorcycle shop. You can probably find them cheaper on ebay/online, but I wanted a helmet that would fit. There was a guide online where you use to measure your head and then buy a helmet according to that. It told me I needed a Large. When I went to the motorcycle shop to try on the helmets, even Medium was a bit too big, so I ended up getting a small, which is nice and snug. I would definately say to atleast try on helmets locally, and then if you want, buy it online. |

Aight cool. I SHOULD be parked with all the cars that are running. If I go, I'll run. Why dont you run as well? The most you'll lose is $30, and you'll get a feel for the car, plus, I wont be the slowest car there (i really need some better tires).
I'll be in a black MR2 hardtop turbo. Pretty much bone stock from the outside. |

i bleed it properly already as per BGB style. but i have to be more careful with my mr2 coz the last owner is messed up. didnt took care of it and now im the one who is fixing all of his carelessness. for example the last owner never did the oil change on time because i can see from all the gunk. and its a big time gunk. outside and inside of car i can tell he did not really care. so i have to baby it.

Is it an intermittent overheating? or does it happen all the time?
When I did my coolant flush, I bled it according to the BGB, but missed like half a step. As soon as I pulled outta the garage, the gauge started slowly going above the middle mark. Pulled it right back in and did it again, and worked perfect. |
