Iowa, 1200 miles from home and leaking oil BAD
Well, here we are.
Or should I say I- Friday, "we" noticed a small oil leak. My co-piolet/navigator was paranoid about it, so I wound up bringing it to a performance toyota dealership to have it checked out. $600 and a day later, they cleared us to go home to maine. Crankshaft oil seal, I think it was... 200 miles later I stopped for gas, and decided to check my oil. 1.5 quarts low, bad news. Threw in a few, went to the nearest toyota dealer (who was closing) and they told me theres nothing they could do for me till tuesday. So my co-piolet/mechanic bails on me, she's taking a flight out thismorning. I kept going, throwing some oil in here and there... but it's getting worse. I'm writing this from a rest-stop off I-80 just outside of Iowa city using my cellphone for internet, gonna head into town and find something to eat... and then I think I'm stuck here till tuesday, when hopefully another toyota dealer can help me out. Until then I'm 1300 miles from home and have no idea what to do with myself. Anyone from the area want to hang out a few days? Otherwise I'll be checking into a local motel 6 and crawling into a bottle till tuesday ![]() |

Oh, forgot to mention, seems I'm going through about a quart in 50 miles, and it's only getting worse (was a quart and a half at 200 yesterday)
'85 mr2. Oil is all over the place- even as far as spattered on the battery. All over the belts, everything. Looks like its even all over my rear bumper from highway driving. E-mail sent to mr2@netman86.com will go directly to my cell- anyone willing to help me out would be a real hero. Even if it's just a place to pitch a tent for a few nights, really. |

Same seal, anothrr dealer just verified.
That's a warranty fix, as its the same part, but they don't appear willing to replace the altenator, which is now toasted from all the oil that got into it. I'm stuck in a town called mentor in ohio, the seals come in tomorrow and hopefully I can head out by 2 or so. Sigh. Looks like this car is going to cost me over $3k by the time I get home (but at least that includes a set of summer rims/tires...) |
