Where's your shop located at? I'll stop by sometime next week once the term's over.
The map Zai posted a link to makes it easy to see where it is (thanks, Zai). Coming from the North, come down Southbound on MLK and hang a left on Hawthorne and then right on 7th Ave. I'm just a few blocks up on the left.
If you're coming from the South, then come up Northbound on 99E and right as it splits into two one-way streets you'll be on Grand Avenue. As soon as it splits, follow the corner and be in the right lane. As it starts to straighten out, there will be another lane opened up on the right. Move over right away and take the very first right turn that you can onto Mill. I'll be two blocks ahead on the right @ 7th and Mill. Anybody that wants to stop by is welcome to. Just be prepared for me to be occasionally distracted by that work thing.

Thanks Zai!!! I was actually drove by near there today, and I might end up back down there tomorrow.

I actually used to work around there. I was @ Spike's Auto Upholstery on 6th between Alder and Morrison until Daryl retired and closed up shop (the sign was still there last I checked, but the shop is long gone). It looks like your only 11 or so blocks away (and 1 block up).

You're close to my buddies tint shop too, Tommy's Window Tinting. I have some things I need to do in that area, so I might have to swing by tomorrow if I end up down in the area.

Let's be realistic here Vince. You haven't even gotten the 1uz in the car yet. You don't have an adapter from the 1uz to any transaxle, if you had to make one that just involves more time and money. We both know that a longitude mount will not be a direct fit into your current chassis. And last but not least, every year your plans get grander and we spend more time making stuff or modding stuff than just making what exists work better.

Now, I of all people, understand the lengths one person will go to to "make" something work. Hah! So I've decided that now I have the time we are going to concentrate on the real aspects of functioning systems instead of the " well, let's try this and see how it works " approach. That means starting with proven components in a viable system without jumping ahead. Now keep in mind I'm thinking about my own projects as well. So in relation to your current situation, I suggest either you keep the current engine and change the drivetrain or set up a new powertrain and integrate it into the car while keeping fabrication to a minimum.

If you want the audi transaxle, then you should consider using the whole powertrain. If you want the 4a, then KEP makes an adapter for a 916 transaxle. I believe KEP makes an adapter for the 1uz but I'm not sure which transaxle it is for. I stopped research at that point on the 1uz because of the further modifications involved and I do not have access to make measurements of your chassis.

Given the dimensions for your track and wheelbase, a lighter powertrain is obviously what we really want. If you balance power and weight vs cost I'd have to say the 4a is the reasonable choice.

Now, on another note. I've decided to clean the current crop of projects up. I'd really like to be able to either work on my car again or build another car with what I already have.

Seth: The drag car is most likely never going to get finished. I know everyone has spent a lot of time on it, but now it sits with no progress being made. The car is techincally still yours even though everyone has put time and money into it. So I'd like everyone's opinion on this before I make a decision. Personally, I'm thinking about removing all the parts we've put into it and scraping the shell.

The corolla: As fun as it is has not progressed any further than when I relocated it for crispy. He has yet to decide what he wants to do with it. Jay has offered work in it if he can use it for racing events. There is a lot of clean up and modifications that would need to be done but it does run and drive. It would make a great platform for a project even if we decided to start all over with a different powertrain.

I think I'm going to pull my engine and repair the suspect headgasket leak. Get a new uncut engine harness and swap to the turbo drivetrain. Then take the whole package and swap it into another "complete" mr2. Yes, can you believe that, I'm actually not going to cut up an mr2. Laugh while you can, just remember how much fun Leng's 5vz mr2 was.

Anyhow, I have to fix a couple of vehicles for the family before I get into the projects again so any plans will be a few months out. Think it over and let me know cause I'd like to finish something this year and I'm probably going to need an extra hand now and then.

Currently saving up to do some more work on the shop. I'll let everyone know when I need a hand. Thanks again for the help and support.

I dont really see the point of scrapping it especially if it runs. I think the big thing is most are broke or more concerned with working on their cars anymore. If I was into drag racing or had a place to put it/work on it I'd keep it but I still have a lot to do on mine before I do another car and I'm in the same boat with it.

no matter what I am going to change the lay out of my car. no more front wheel drive in the back. I need to get the 4A to an Audi 5k t rans or something else. I just got rid of the two 914-916 trans, They are not strong enough. Thus the Audi trans is the way to go for the money.

I thought that KEP made a trans adapter for the 1Uz to the Audi trans. This is why I wanted to pick up that stuff. 125.00 is really cheap for all that and no matter what way I go (1UZ or 4A) it should work. All I need to do is get the adapter and clutch. Then i can start doing the needed fab work to mate it to the car. That fab work may sound like alot but its not. I agree that the 4A is a nice light package. But the 1uz is not that much more weight and lots more HP/Tq. I don't know. Am I wrong?

IIRC: The 1uz is 28 inches long, and about the same as wide. I don't have the height measurement. In stock trim the 1uz does make more power than yr current 4a. I believe it will have an affect on your CG with the bigger engine. You will have to back half the Fort to be able to fit the engine and relocate the drivetrain/suspension points. You may have to stretch the body.

I've been mulling over the same issues with Tink. Working out placement of an LS engine with a porsche trans in the back. Pretty much the same issues you'll have, but with a bigger chassis.

If you are really set on using the 1uz, we can make it work. You'll have to put a list together of costs to see if you can afford it. We have plenty of space and time to make just about anything. I think it's going to take longer than you anticipate though. I'd prefer seeing the Fort closer to being done than a few years out.

Well, Seth, Jay said the same thing. Honestly, I'd really like to see the drag car finished. No matter what it puts down it has been a great learning experience. I just don't have the time to devote to it right now. My car is always going to be an ongoing project. It's pretty much my test mule. Still up in the air with the corolla, I might just send it back over to Crispy's house so I don't have to store it. I still have the shell from Mark that sits in the trees. So basically, there are 4 vehicles at my house that just sit at the moment.

Even if we did get the drag car done, who is going to store it and maintain it?
