Talking Workshop group

Hey just wanted to start a thread for the Portland area workshop group.

For the newer guys here is the info about the shop group

" We are like a car co-op not a charity, my suggetion would be to start showing up on the weekends and introduce your self to the group, and help out where you can. It's kind of like one hand washes the other. Zai is doing us all a huge favor by allowing us to use his shop space, tools and knowlege as well as hookups for basically free....so dont abuse it. "

The workshop group gets together every saturday. We usually roll in around 10-12 and are here till whenever we decide to go home. Week days we are here around 6-11 pm. If you have an urgent need of help then you can come on a week day, but there will be less of us. Fridays is kinda of a toss up, sometimes we break out early so we can get some much needed sleep, or we keep cranking till dawn. Best thing to do is call ahead to make sure we are here, esp. if you are coming from far away.

Shop address is : 12771 NE Whitaker Way. Portland, OR 97230, so you can map quest it. Shop number is 503-253-3088 , if the line is busy then someone is here. You can IM or Email me at mouabrothers@hotmail.com.

I dont mind all the emails regarding help with everyone's cars. I think it would be best that everyone post so that we can spread the knowledge. The shop is my small business so i'm not here all the time. If you need me to fix your car for you then, it's business so expect to be charged. On the other hand if all you need is help then everything that i have and everyone that i know is available to you at no charge ( cept maybe food and drinks, haha). That usually also includes gettin a helping hand from the rest of the workshop group.

For OEM parts: Broadway Toyota, 503-284-8344. That is the direct line to parts. Talk to Glenn he is the parts manager tell him you know me. If dont know what you need or are afraid of Glenn, haha, then call me and i'll order yr parts for you under my account so you get a discount and all you have to do is go pay for it. Everyone in the parts department there knows me i used to work there years ago, heehee.

For aftermarket parts: Discount Import Parts, 503-659-7444, talk to Scott or Chris for your needs. Again tell them you know me. Scott is more knowledgeable bout the mr2 parts. Once again if you want to get a discount you will need to call me and have me order it it for you. Most of the products they offer are comparable to OE.

For machine work: Bearing Services, 503-222-1366. Talk to Brian he's the head guy there

Zai, I'm waiting to hear back from Zac about your car passing tech, but from what it sounds like, it shouldn't be a problem as long as there is nothing loose, and you have seatbelts, and a helmet. The only thing I worry about is your front scoop being attached a little better, but I think the rest should be fine. I will get a better response tonight. I'm trying to figure out my sleeping arrangements too, since I was going to stay with Zac, but we both just found out he's got family over at his place, so I have no place to go. Trying to get in touch with an old friend, but no such luck yet, so I'm in limbo.

Hey Zai. . . does your boss still have that SR-5 for sale at your day job?

What was wrong with it again?

Project Drifter update: Well I went over money spent on the car. I found I am close to 3,750$ with the purchase of the chassis itself.

I have gone down and listed my current issues with the car and have spent the last couple days finding solutions to various problems.

I will probably plan the upgrades in stages. . . but I think I can make a true street legal sleeper out of the car yet. . . auto-x / drift / road race. . .

Now that we know the stock HP, gear ratio, tire size, spring rate, etc we can go about addressing and refining the product. . .

I think I need a binder for this stuff. . . *sigh*

For them there of you that did'nt make the meet... Chris..... you really missed out on a great time... WE smashed on the Auto-X!!! "Tink" as it's now known as,(zai will explain or just stop by the shop) Was really fast.... needs some tires but man can it put the power down!... I was hitting 4th by before turn 1. and it was'nt that far from the start... as a matter of fact... I think I'm the only one (well the car) to hit 4th gear out there. I think Dylin got some Really good vid. of the event... I can't wait to see the pic's on the board!

no didnt win but in the top 5, I'd think given a good supsention setup and tires as well as more actual track time to sort out the car I think it would be a real contender for 1st....you really did miss out, good times.

I had a good time as well, it sucked going back to work. I woke up 10min before I normally head out, needless to say I made it their is record time

Not bad not bad... it's all good... next year... probably won't have an MR2 done but I should have the corolla where I want it. . .

but that means it has to come completely back apart. . . again. . .

Don't ask. . .

Dang, you should've taken the corolla Chris. There was another guy there, also named chris, with his hatch. You would've layed the smack down on his 4age. He had a basically stock 4age, good tires, primered black. We were telling him bout your car. He said he just bought a turbo kit for his 4a, but he was really interested in seeing your car.

It was a great time, minus the constant fixing Project91 (ask Vince ), haha. The car itself put down great power for such a short track. So much down low that we were basically shredding my roll around tires. We really should've mounted up the slicks Vince found. Really need to upgrade the suspension, blown struts dont like to corner very well. On the plus side, both v-6's did attract everyone's attention. I got some decent data with the Innovate that I can show you guys when you are down at the shop some time.

I think the video that Dylan took is really going to be great. Josh took a bunch of pics on my digi-cam, I'll post them soon as I get a chance to upload them.

Steve drove his GT-Four down, it was a big hit with the group also.
