''Two Cruise'' Portland july

"Two Cruise" Portland July 2008 **NEW INFO
The dates are set--Sat./Sun. July 26th/27th. I've gotten enough responses to go ahead and confirm this event. I should have a host hotel lined up by next week. I'm favoring the Phoenix Inn near Washington Square--I looked at rooms and they are large and very nice. If guys want to share a room they have rooms with 2 double beds, seating, TV, microwave, coffee machine, etc. Group rate for us is $129/night (usually $149) so if two share it is pretty economical. We will be able to use this group rate up until 30-45 days before the event as long as rooms are available. This rate includes a fully cooked breakfast.

There's also a nice center courtyard which would make a nice place to hold a get together late Friday afternoon to meet and hang out. I am checking into the possibility of having a BBQ in the courtyard Friday afternoon. There will be awards for each category (MkI, MkII, Spyder) as well as best overall as chosen by the participants. We will have a country drive on Saturday and dinner Saturday night (for all who want to join in) at Buster's BBQ. It's excellent food, reasonable, nearby and it's "cafeteria" style meaning you line up, order, then pick up your food. This will be much better and easier than trying to order dinner at a regular restaurant.

If we decide to hold a BBQ, then registration will be about $7.50 which will include a sign for each car, a BBQ ticket, a raffle ticket and maybe more depending on sponsor participation. If you know an MR2 vendor who wants to take part, please contact me.

Here's another option on lodging. The Embassy Suites is located adjacent to Washington Square. They offer 2-room suites. Our group rate is $149 which could accommodate 2 people (I'm thinking 2 friends who each drive to the event.) They offer a full breakfast as part of the room fee and would also allow us to hold our "show" in their parking lot. Embassy Suites is a little more upscale than the Phoenix.

Both Embassy Suites and the Phoenix Inn will allow us to book rooms up until 30 days before the event date.

I'd like to see at least 20 cars/drivers committed to this event before I go ahead and ask for a registration fee and begin making up forms, car signs, seek sponsors/vendors, etc. Please let me know (if you haven't already) if you plan on coming.

**** **** **** **** **** ****

I have mentioned this before and want to begin a thread on a weekend MR2 event here in Portland. I would like to schedule it for either the weekend of 19-20 or 26-27 in July.

I also don't want to conflict with the NWMR2 event that was held in Medford last year in August.

I am looking for a host hotel--I'm trying to find something around Washington Square which is 15 minutes from downtown Portland. It's centrally located for various amentities--Les Schwab just down the street, gas, Starbucks, Wash. Square is a mall with a Sears (for tools) and a food court. I-5, Hwy. 217 and Hwy. 99 are close by. We might even be able to hold the Saturday "show" in the parking lot there.

I have spoken with the Phoenix Inn just across the street. Their group rate is $129/night which includes a full breakfast. Rooms have microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers and WiFi. They also have a nice courtyard to hang out.

The plan is to have each registrant/car pay a $5 fee which will go towards awards--participants will vote for their favorite MkI, MkII, Spyder and best overall. I'm seeking some sponsorship and Aaron at Lithia Toyota expressed interest in attending--maybe having some MR2 parts for sale. I live nearby and can supply tools, jackstands, etc. for any emergency repairs.

We will have some kind of get-together on Friday early evening, a car show on Saturday and some kind of drive out into the nice winding roads of Washington County Saturday afternoon.

What I need in the next couple of weeks is feedback on dates, event plans and of course, most importantly, who thinks they will attend.

Anyone who wants to help out please let me know. I will be looking at some other hotels/motels in the area. Thanks, look forward to hearing from everyone.

If I can get my car finished by then I'll be there. Both those hotels are like 5 min from where I work.

NEW INFO

Hotel Information
The Phoenix Inn is located at 9575 SW Locust, Tigard OR (503) 624-9000. We have 10 rooms at the group rate secured until 30 days prior to the event. I think we will need more rooms so if you're serious about going make your reservations as soon as possible--once these rooms are filled more rooms will become available but if we wait too long we risk losing the opportunity to secure more rooms at the group rate ($129 instead of $149).

BBQ Information
The BBQ will include either a hamburger or hot dog (let me know if you want a vegie-burger or vegan dog), condiments, chips and a soda (cola, sprite or root beer).

Registration
When you send in your registration, please include the following:
Names of those attending
Mailing address
Email address (for confirmation and updates)
Choices for the BBQ (burger or dog, soda, etc.)
$10.00 (which includes one BBQ ticket) plus $2.50 for each additional BBQ ticket

We will be staying at the Phoenix Inn in Tigard (next to Washington Square and adjacent to Portland). The dates are set--Sat./Sun. July 26th/27th. I would expect people will want to book Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th.

I looked at rooms and they are large and very nice. If guys want to share a room they have rooms with 2 double beds, seating, TV, microwave, coffee machine, etc. Group rate for us is $129/night (usually $149) so if two share it is pretty economical. If you call to book, tell them you are part of the "Twos Cruise Portland" event to get the group rate.

We will be able to use this group rate up until 30-45 days before the event as long as rooms are available. This rate includes a fully cooked breakfast (belgian waffles, eggs, tortillas, cinnamon rolls, fruit, juices, coffee, etc.)

We will have a Friday late afternoon BBQ in the center courtyard. Food and soft drinks will be provided (as part of the registration fee). Please--NO ALCOHOL can be consumed in the courtyard or the pool area.

There will be awards for each category (MkI, MkII, Spyder) as well as best overall as chosen by the participants. We will have a country drive on Saturday and possibly a visit to one or more of the Performance Shops that cater to MR2s in the area.

Registration will be $10.00 per car (and one person) which will include a sign for each car, a BBQ ticket, a raffle ticket and maybe more depending on sponsor participation. Extra BBQ tickets (for cars that have more than one person) are $2.50 each.

The car show on Saturday will be held close to the hotel. Show hours will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. At that time we'll announce the winners and then go on a drive (if you care to join us) or do whatever you'd like. We will have a restaurant picked out for a group dinner in the next few weeks.

If you plan on attending, please send your registration fee along with your name, address, make, model, year and any info you'd like to share about your car. I will create a data base of attendees. When you check in on Friday (or Saturday depending on your plans) you will get a registration packet with your car sign, tickets, etc.

Send your registration to: B. Warner 8025 SW Elmwood St. Portland OR 97223

If you know an MR2 vendor who wants to take part or have any questions, please contact me. I hope we can get a great turnout and make this an annual event.

Two's Cruise Portland Email address

I am the event organizer, thought I'd give everyone my email address. It would be better to send messages to me at my email address.

If you are pretty sure you will attend and if you think you will need a room (and how many nights you would want), please send me your name. I'm trying to get a preliminary idea of how many people might attend.

If you're definitely coming, please send your registration info to me as soon as you know you are coming. This will help plan the event, and as mentioned above, we only have 10 rooms blocked for our group. I think we will need more but more rooms will not become available until these 10 are taken. Thanks, looking forward to getting together.

Updates...

We have between 12 and 15 paid registrations. Awards have been ordered. Check the "sticky" at the top of the forum for details and updates. As far as cruising, I'm up for a drive before then if we can get a nice weekend day! You can call me if you want to meet up and go for a drive. --Bruce 503-244-7035
