My project car is up and running

I live between Eugene and Grants Pass.

My project car just became operable recently.

Its an 87 converted to an SC, with an SC14 upgrade.
Its white with a body kit on it.

I built a 2 stage water alcohol injection system to counter the SC14 upgrade and overboost protection bypass installed.

I've removed over 200 lbs of weight, installed racing seats, and a boost gage.

I'm still working on the body, but it blends in with all the other primer painted vehicles where I live.

So, if you are in my neighborhood and want to compare rides, swap parts, etc. Lemme know what your car is up to.

Thanks for replying

Kev Kanos:

Oregon City, isn't that near the Oregon Caves Nat. Park area? Perhaps if they hold that Autocross event in Grant's Pass again, we could meet there.

MR2greasemonkey:

I read your recent post in the Workshop group about being tired of your generous nature being taken advantage of. Well, I'm too far away to mooch, or provide a positive contribution. Portland being 200 miles away is really not a daytrip for me. I haven't been there in years.

But I do sympathize with your position in the workshop group. I used to do a lot of "free" car work for folks. And then when I needed help, .. . . . all I could hear was the sound of crickets chirping in the night.

And let's not forget the classic, you replace a lady's brakelight bulb one year. And the next year her headlights and turn signals quit working. And its your fault! Come fix it pronto and at your expense! Kabam, that's the sound of me hanging up the phone!

I would dearly love to show off my project car to a bunch of Two enthusiasts. Perhaps at the Autocross event in Grant's Pass next year?

Hey M. Bailey:

Does your car have an air intake on the driver's side? I used to have a 87 N.A. Mr2, but sold it a year or so ago.

Your car looks I lot like my old one, except for the rims.

Yep, I'm planning on making it to the autocross event if my MR2 is running. Running is beginning to be more problematic for these 20 year old cars!

Hence the name for my current unit "Jackstand Queen".

There are held at a very nice purpose build Auto Cross track just North of Grants Pass. I think people from Kalifornia even make it to the event. I'll give you a link to a website with some more info on it. Here is a link to this years event held this last July.

I must be psyhic . . . 24 hours after posting the comment "Running is beginning to be more problematic for these 20 year old cars!" . . .. . . . my car starts making a loud clanking valve or rod noise. Arrrrgggghhh!

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk (Curly of the 3 Stooges), the clanking noise was just a loose water pump pulley.

Stop in and say hi sometime! With all the MR2 parts we sell - and we sell a lot - it always amazes me how many locals there are that I haven't met yet. I'd love to see your SC14 install, water injection setup, etc. I'm trying to get bentheswift to try water injection on his smallport GZE, but I don't think he's put it together yet.

te51levin:

I don't often get up to the Beeg City of Eugene. Ah Eugene . . . . so many hippies to beat up, so little time. Joking.

I put my water injection system together from many sources piecemeal. Its not very reliable, mostly because I'm working out the bugs still. Its mostly a band-aid for trying not to burn up the motor with really hot intake air. But It does feel like a ignition upgrade performance wise, barely noticeable, but there.

I feel there is potential even for a piecemeal system. I built one out of a washer fluid tank/pump and a couple of cold start injectors and it worked just great. No need to use space shuttle componentry on a simple thing like water injection

My WIS system snowballed from plain and simple to the more I got into it: . . . . the more bells and whistles got added. I must be sick in the head because:

3 LED's are mounted where the clock used to be.
Green for stage one on.
Red for wide open throttle switch on and the 2nd stage NOS solenoid is opened (activated).
The Yellow LED goes to a low fluid level sensor gutted from a Merc. Benz.
The fluid resavoir came from a Captain Slow-Mobile . . . ugh a Volvo.
It has a pressure check valve which only opens at greater than 45 PSI, so that intake vacuum or pressure doesn't move the juice around on it long travel from the front trunk.

Of course it has an obligatory Hobbs air pressure activated switch, which is extremely adjustable to just about any PSI.

The pump is designed to power RV plumbing systems. It puts out so much volume, I had to plumb an overflow line out of its output and direct it right back to the resavoir.

Its wired with three OEM type relays, everything is fused, the wiring is centered in the rear trunk inside a relay/fuse box from a old corolla. Its rigged to run when the ignition is in the run position. So, no switches to flip, or forget. Completely automatic.

My point is its not simple, or easy to put together. It is a frankenstein collection of components that I made a special effort to deceptively appear to be well packaged and installed.

Someday I might even put some Nitro Methane in the water mix just to see what happens.
