Angry I hate my car

Hey guys. I could use some help... My car has been down for a while now, and I cant figure out whats wrong with it.. It cranks ok, and has fuel.. There is no spark though. I have replaced the coil, and the ignition control module. There is still no spark coming off the coil. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the ECU. Any of you have any input?

Hmm... nice sunny day.

Has me thinking about getting a bike instead of a car. Hmmmmmmmmm.... Jen would probably kill me. Still worth it though right?

blademr2: if you have compression and fuel pressure but no spark, then the next step will be to check the Ne and G signals from the pickups in the distributor. The igniter needs Ne ( crank signal/rpm ) to start the ignition sequence. If you are not capable of checking Ne then another thing you can try is gettin an injector noid light or pulse tester and probe the injector. If you have injector pulse then that means the igniter is reading Ne and returning a Igf signal to the computer to fire the injectors. You need to verify power and ground to the ignition components if you have not already done so.

Leng: The address for the dyno is 14189 Fir Street, Oregon City, OR 97045, 503-659-9536. Not really sure on cost so I'm just gonna say $50 to dyno , figure an hour per car. I'm not doing any tuning, just making pulls to see where my cars at. Be a good idea to bring food or some extra change so we can pool for lunch.

Sinester: Great to see you are local now, we get together same times every week. As SethW stated above, we are having a small dyno get together this weekend.

Go Ducks: you shouldve listened to me in the first place and got a scooter.....

I'm not going to be at the shop tomorrow evening. Vince is gonna come help me haul my car up to the shop/day job cause they are having race car night up there. Get some more input on my car and it's closer to the dyno. If anyone wants to come check it out, call my cell # and i'll give you directions.

Do you have your car running right yet? Or running to the level you want it to, I should ask?

Yeah, I might just get a skateboard and call it good.

If my timing belt snapped, would it cause this, or just make the engine run really rough? I had always thought it would make it run rough, but now that im thinking about it, it sounds like it could be a logical problem.. I know that my water pump was on its way out, but thought it would make some sort of noise when it went.. my car was running and just stopped, no odd noises...

Blade - if your timing belt broke, you will get no spark, and the engine will certainly not run. The water pump is driven off of a serpentine type belt, that has no way of keeping position. The Timing belt has teeth that match up with gears on the end of the cams, and crank. They are setup to keep their position. The cam rotates and opens the valves at the correct time to let fuel/air in, and exhaust out. If those don't turn, the engine will not run at all. Even getting them 1 tooth off can make a huge difference. If the car was running, then stopped, it could very well be the timing belt. Pull the top timing cover off and look.

If you're timing belt is broken you will not have compression and the distributor rotor will not move when cranking.

So i changed the water in the engine for coolant, haha. Changed the trans. fluid to synthetic. Drained the tank and put in premium. On the 4 gas analyser the engine shows lean, the TPS doesnt seem to be working ( there's a dent in it, oh well, old spare part time for a new one ). So i'm gonna replace that tomorrow and check the emissions again. One of the mounts is twisting, will prob need to take it out and weld some bracing to it. Other than that, engine runs good, infared gun shows good temps at the head/block/exhaust. Have a fan rigged to the radiator temporarily since the second half of the front scoop is not done yet. Pretty much ready to go to the dyno saturday to see what I got. Working on the megasquirt, thanks Dylan for the help, got the harness made. Currently only at 5psi , figure nice and safe the first time around with everthing. This way I'll know what my baseline platform is for future upgrades.

Zai, I just received my reupholstery kit from leatehrseats.com that I picked up on their last groupbuy on the other board. It came with the pieces to cover both seats, both door inserts, shift boot, and driver and passenger side heater/massage units. I also have a black floor carpet I would like installed as well. Most of what I have read on here refers to engine work, but I'm sure this would all be a breeze for you. If you would be interested in doing the install, please contact me with the price. burton@stennis.navy.mil Thanks...Caleb

Hahaha... Install interior?!?! I thought we only knew how to tear it out... If Zai isn't interested, I'll do it. I used to do some work at my uncle's uhpolstery shop, and it isn't that hard to put covers on, and re-cover doors. I'll see what Zai says first, who knows, he may be interested.

Hahaha... MK1 MR2 FTW!!! 99.53HP/91.31Ft Lbs at the wheels. I totally beat everyone I was really surprised, since my bottom end has over 260k miles on it, burns oil, and smokes a bit. I was only expecting like 75 or 80. Chris guessed 80-90 maybe. Guess it really is as fast as it feels. Vince did say it felt fast for a stock mk1. Dyno'd the rally car too. Wasn't nearly what I expected since the guy who built the motor said it made 180 on an engine dyno, and could possibly do 210, but the dynojet only came up with 81.01/92.73. When I was trying to figure out what the heck was wrong, Jay said that his experience with cars like mine are that they often lose significantly than 40% power in the drivetrain and tires, and that he has seen a motor make 200 on an engine dyno, then only 100 in the car. He thinks it may be possible that the motor is making 180 at the flywheel still, but who knows. I just know its quick in the dirt. Anyway, I had an awesome time, and look forward to getting a turbo back on this damn thing.

Oh, and Blade... guess I didn't think what kind of car you had. If it's a 2nd gen then ya, the waterpump is on the timing belt... silly me...
