I have to smog my car in May of 2013. The 5sfe that's stock in the car, sounds like it's on its way out. Overall, the car has been neglected by the original owner. I want to do a 3vzfe swap into it this summer, but I fear that the car won't pass Oregon smog with that engine. Further more, by state law that engine swap is illegal. In Oregon, you can only swap in the same make of an engine as the car and could only swap a motor that was an option to the model. So I can only swap in a Toyota motor into a Toyota chassis and the engine has to be a factory option of that chassis, so my only legal options are a USDM 3sgte or 5sfe. I don't want a 3sgte due to cost and the 5sfe lacks fun to me. So, those who live in Portland with v6's in their twos did you pass emission testings with the 3vzfe with no one the wiser?
I'm probably going with a jdm motor which lacks an egr system, I plan on putting on a egr to smog one last time (I only do it one more time, then the car is 21 years old and the car won't need to be smogged anymore in the Rogue Valley.) What does it take to fit on an egr onto a jdm engine? Does it involve drilling? Can I just buy a usdm intake with the egr system and install and I'm good to go?
TIA for answering my lame questions
