Feeler: Annual MR2 Guru Fall Meet: Supras, All Tracs/MR2s Welcome
Just as it says, Harry and I are trying to pinpoint a good time to run our annual Asheville, NC MR2 meet. Since I now have an All Trac as well, I thought it would be a lovely idea to have all sorts of fun Toyota cars join in!
I would like to nail down a good time as far as weather and work/school schedules to allow for the best turn-out. I know a lot of us have been itching for another large meet for quite some time, and unfortunately I had chickened out on the July 4th meet due to the extreme heat. The official dates are October 5th, 6th and 7th. This is a good time as far as weather in the area. The leaves begin to display wonderful colors, the weather is JUST RIGHT, and there is a lower percentage chance of rain events. I'm hoping that these times will also make planning easier for those with busy work/school schedules. Anyone that has been to our meets in the past know that there is usually no strictly set itinerary as we usually end up talking away for hours on end, but we hope to involve a swap meet, drive, photo ops and food. I really would love this to be a full weekend event, with the opportunity for event group hotel rates and a solid plan for something new to see each day. For those of you that are able to make this a 3+ day event, Asheville is a tremendous vacation spot for couples/families. Any of you that have wives/children that are not huge automotive fans have the opportunity to bring the whole family so that they may too enjoy some of what Asheville has to offer. Anyone needing more information on hot-spots for the wife and kids are more than welcome to contact me. The hotel I have in mind offers indoor swimming, which is almost enough for any young/pre-teen to be entertained for hours on end! I would like to now open this thread for discussion so that we may get this plan underway! Thanks! MR2 Guru Crew Last edited by Locofrancais MR2Guru; 09-17-2007 at 02:40 PM.. |

So far on the other forums the most likely weekend will be the first of October. The earliest dates are a little too close to NOPI making it difficult for some to request two weekends off work in a row.
Please continue to share your thoughts with me about which weekend is favorable for each of you and if you'll be staying the full weekend. I'll need a good head-count for those that would like to stay in the hotel for the weekend so that we can get a discounted group rate for you. Here is the hotel I have in mind: Best Western Biltmore West - Asheville North Carolina Hotel |

Anyone interested in staying in the hotel should post here so that I may get a head count. We will need to know how many people are coming to find out if we can get a discounted group rate.

October 5,6,7th are most solid for everyone. I'm definitely supporting those dates for your exact situation. I want to assist in making sure everyone has plenty of time to request the weekend away from work and long enough to plan such a trip.

Hotel Info:
http://www.trails.com/all-hotels/ho...sp?hotelid=4163 Meeting Spot: Google Maps Itinerary: Friday Afternoon; Come see the shop as you arrive in town up until 7pm! Our shop is located behind/under Pretty Pets, between the unmarked Citgo gas station and Subway. DO NOT PARK AT THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING, THIS BELONGS TO THE PET GROOMER UPSTAIRS. Please pull around to the back of the building for parking, or you may use the parking lot at the gas station next door. MR2 Guru/Phoenix Motorsports 1565 B Patton Avenue Asheville, North Carolina 28806 828-776-4878 Friday Evening - Dinner @ Asiana Grand Buffet (Less than 1 Mile from suggested Hotel) at 8pm. We will need a head count for this so that we may reserve a private party room if necessary. Friday Night - For those night-owls and car enthusiasts, follow us from dinner to the main strip until Midnight. See classics, imports, and maybe some rice... Saturday Morning - 11am- Meeting spot above, Carrier Park on corner of Short Michigan and Amboy Road. Covered picnic area, FRESH PAVEMENT, and plenty of parking. In the past we have had too large a group to fit in our tiny parking lot at the shop, so this will make meeting and parking much easier for all. Saturday - Lunch 1pm - Olive Garden Italian Restaurant, followed by scenic Blue Ridge Parkway drive. This drive will be suited for every driver with plenty of photo opportunities. Scenic Drive Map Saturday Afternoon - (~3-4pm) Meet back at Park, arrange cars for more photo opportunities, open discussion/meeting. This will also be a good time for vendors to promote and individuals are open to a swap-meet. Saturday Evening - (~6-7pm or until everyone is finished with pictures/chat) - Dinner (Undetermined), followed by technical drive. Aggressive/Inexperienced drivers not suggested for this path. Technical Drive Technical drive should be completed by 10pm. Saturday Night - Open Itinerary, for those who would like to return to the strip, those who would like to get silly on a Saturday night on the town, or those who need to rise early Sunday to get home - there should be something to do for everyone. Anyone who wishes to drink recreational beverages Saturday night should let me know if they will be carpooling with a designated driver so that we may keep track of you and make sure you arrive back at the hotel safely. We may be able to help with a local DD to show you around town. Sunday Morning/Noon - Brunch - I will need a head count of those that do not have to leave early Sunday so that we can plan a suitable restaurant for brunch. Our options will be more open for a smaller group, but if there is still quite a large group I will make arrangements accordingly. Sunday Afternoon (~2pm-5pm) - Meet/Good-byes - Depending on the size of Sunday's group we will either hold this back at the park or at the shop. Both locations grant easy access to either Interstate 40 and Interstate 26 for your trip home.
