Snake Run TN/VA/NC?
Hello, earlier in the year some of us had talked about running the "Snake" at some point this summer since we already did the Dragon earlier. I just thought that I would bring it back up to see if we can get a meet together.
For those not in the know, this is a series of roads up around the TN/NC/VA borders with 489 turns. It is a very popular motorcycle run, but is still somewhat of a secret in the car world other than the local Miata / Porsche clubs hitting it occasionally. Anyway, it would make for a good meet because there is a cruise-in at one end of the route in Elizabethton which nets several hundred cars held every Saturday night, not to mention other similar events in the surrounding Tri Cities towns all within 20 miles of each other. Also there are 3 drive-in movie theaters in the area and of course a drag strip at BMS just to mention a few car related things - in other words, there are TONS of things to do after the fact if anyone wants to get together for a Snake run. |

Here are some links for the Snake:
1 2 3 4 5 Here are some Cruise-In Links: 1 2 Drive-In Movies: 1 2 3 Import drag racing: 1 2 As seen, there are oodles of things always going on in the area... Those are just a few things off of the top of my head that could potentially be done locally after a run that are car related - since it is difficult to get a bunch of people together that may only have their cars in common. |

I'd be down for a "Snake" run. The Dragon has gotten to be a real ***** lately, due to all of the traffic and press coverage.
Looking ahead a few months, we need to schedule a drive-in sometime this fall, right after the leaves are off the trees, when the weather is clear and the temps are in the mid 50's. Last couple of weeks in October, maybe. That way, there are less bikes out, and you can see through turns. The MR2Board Pumpkin Run. ![]() BTW: The ETRSCCA worked with Bristol Motor Speedway to start doing autocross every Tuesday and Thursday night in conjunction with the Street Fights, beginning tomorrow night. ![]() |

I'll be going up 81. I "conveniently" have some appointments for work up there, so I'll be in the area.

well the ATL guys are having a meet on the 21st of Oct so why not do it then? I mean you can only drive the dragon for so long then you want to branch off, so the snake would defienetly be fun.

In "air miles" it is 133 miles NE of the Dragon (according to my Key Master Map program). Either way, the Snake is much easier to access than the Dragon. If coming from TN or VA, you can make an exit on I-81 and get right to it within 20 minutes. If coming from NC it is a little more involved, but nothing major. Once we get a date in stone I will make some directions from various locations. |
