Parallel port, what's that?
![]() From the port, all that's needed to interface the tach is a transistor and two resistors, plus the power supply of choice. For a 1MZ tach, you need 12VDC. For pretty much anything else that's driven by the coil/Igniter, you need at least 24VDC. |

that's exactly what i did to calibrate merkur tachs. i just pulled the tach signal schematics off the stimulator board and made a separate module. the stimulator circuit has built in pots for coarse and fine adjustments. works pretty good. i mounted an aftermarket tach to the side of my box so i could have it to calibrate the stock tach to.

transmission wont have anything to do with the tach, it's a signal coming directly from the ecu (v6) rather than the ignitor (3s/5s). and to correct the early 1mz tach from the camry (mines a 98) is a bolt on to the n/a gauge as they have the same sweep. Won't work on the turbo as they have a higher redline

Time for some grave digging. on another subject how would one change the sweep on the v6 tach? i'm currently running one from the 98 camry and a turbo face plate so it's now 8 vs 9 krpm. can't really go back to the n/a one as i've rig the turbo one with leds
