5vz and 3vz share the same mounts and bellhousing pattern?

I'm coming from a truck background here, and everyone over on YotaTech seems to think that because the 3vzfe comes from a transverse camry that there is no way that it'll work in the Toyota pickup for a swap.

They all praise the 5vzfe because it bolts right in on their older 3vze mounts, and that is why the 5vzfe has such a high price tag around where I live.

But.. after reading this website I'm starting to wonder what is it exactly that makes the 3vzfe unusable, considering you guys use both the 5vzfe and the 3vzfe.

So here are my two questions:

Is the bellhousing the same on the 5vzfe and 3vzfe (i.e. can you use the same transmission/clutch setup?) if so then the truck guys should be able to use a 3vzfe.

Is there any difference in how the 3vzfe and the 5vzfe mount to the chassis?

Edit: also on that note, is the 1mzfe the same as the 5vzfe as far as mounts and bellhousing as well?

Thanks for your help

Im not sure what you are trying to do, but there are two versions of the 3vz the camry one and the truck one. Since both 3vz's are the same engine family, the camry short block will go where the truck short block fits. The 5vz is a later generation of the same engine family. 3vz is a 3.0L vs 5vz which is a 3.4L.

I think he's trying to do a project that I've considered doing myself down the road- he wants to replace either a 22RE, 3VZ-E or the like with a 3VZ-FE or 1MZ-FE in a Toyota truck.

I believe that it's possible but I don't have the experience to prove it. I'd imagine there'd be fab work for the side mounts but overall I'd SUGGEST it's doable.

Like I said though... I don't have the experience to back that up.

haha I actually have a 91 toyota pickup and a 91 mr2 NA. I've been reading about the v6 swap into my Mr2 but after all the reading came to the conclusion that the 3VZFE should work in a truck just the same as the 5VZFE.

Does anyone know for a fact if the 5VZFE and 3VZFE share the same mounts? If so, it stands to reason that the 3VZFE would indeed work in the pickup, contrary to what the truck guys all claim.

They all have the 3VZE from the factory, and I know for a fact that the 5VZFE bolts directly to the 3VZE mounts and transmission, but at the same time the truck crowd claims that the 3VZFE does NOT work, which is why I'm confused as you guys seem to interchange the 5VZFE and 3VZFE freely.

Understand my questions now?

Thanks for any help

It is most likely because of layout. The 3vz in the camry's and mr2 is mounted at a tilt. In the trucks, the 3vz and 5vz are straight up and down. The 5vz in the mr2 is tilted because of the way it bolts to the transmission. Look at the v6 in your truck and tilt it to one side 30 degrees and then you'll understand. Or look at a v6 camry and tilt that so the block sits level and you'll see why it would be hard to fit under the hood.
