I'd have a look at WTFAuto/Tristan's got on his. Username is flupstar on the car forums.

Any forced induction on a 1MZFE automatically turns it into a time bomb if the longblock is stock. Even stock-pulley TRD superchargers.
Brad Bedell ran his 1MZ at ~550hp (supercharged + nitrous) for a bit. I don't think WTFAuto/Tristan has passed that yet. *shrug* |

I think so. He used the older 1MZ though (94-96), which supposedly has beefier internals in the short block. Replacement parts, though, have been superceded by the 1997+ parts.
All 1MZs have shot-peened connecting rods from the factory, but the cast pistons pose a very big problem for forced induction setups. Once the heat builds up (from running a little lean or boost creep or something in the tune) the chances of the piston grenading increase dramatically. You might be able to run it pig rich for a while to keep the piston tops cooler, but eventually, you'll try to get a little more power out of it by leaning it out and boom. The TRD supercharger, especially, will cause piston failure at 9psi because the compressed air is so damn hot (imagine running on a 105 degree day with that). If only it were intercooled ... I'm not sure about the ring lands. |
