4" Turbo-back (if I can get the piping to fit, otherwise Ill have to go 3") into a 4" ID bullet muffler.

The truck sound comes from large displacement and low revs. http://www.v6mr2.com/V6t.wmv you can hear under heavy load and low revs it ideed sounds like a truck or muscle car. Once the revs pick up the engine sounds awsome. Its ALL ABOUT THE REVS!
BTW: max revs at any given point in that video were not above 5600ish immagine the sound at 7500 or 8000! I think the truck sound at idle is unavoidable with out a restrictive exhaust. It is, after all a V6. |

Is it possilbe to do a true-dual setup and avoid a y-pipe at all? Just 2 seperate exhausts straight off the headers? I think this would sound mean...I love the muscle sound, haha.

You actually want the two exhaust streams to cross. There is a noticeable gain in torque on the lower end from the use of an X pipe.

Plus, IMO, true-dual exhausts sound like ass. More exhaust pulses generally means higher pitch all else being equal. If you separate the pulses it will sound like two 3-cyl cars running next to eachother. That is why most TT 350zs still have that deep cow-like pitch even as they approach redline. There simply arent enough pulses to raise the pitch. This is also why I-6s tend to sound so high pitched, because all the exhaust pulses go through the same place. Take a 350z and make it single turbo, and you get nearly the same sound. Also note Vipers. They tend to have a pitch kindof between a 4-cyl and a 6-cyl... like two 5-cyls. Get what Im trying to say? Keep those pulses together!
At least this is all what I've noticed. |

I have heard some old muscle cars w/ true dual all the way back and it sounds sick as shit, lol. Not sure how a 6 would sound.
Why does the cross cause torque? Just create back pressure but still allow the air to flow well? |

IMO, nothing sounds better than a V8 with an H or X pipe
Just staight "duals" always sounds weird to me, and I can pick those car out easy (as they're usually quite a bit LOUDER). They usually sound like 1978 Ford trucks with unconnected cherry bombs It should be noted you want to use an X pipe like Node said. An H pipe does a good job of balancing the sound pulses, but doesn't scavenge very well (air takes the path of least resistance). The whole point of connecting the cyl banks is to scavenge/smooth out pulses. |

I have been trying to figure out any way to run exhaust with a little more generally avaliable muffler. I have been looking into the 350z exhaust, but after looking at some pictures I think that it may be too tall to fit under our cars. I made a drawing of an idea I had and its crude and not to scale but I am wondering if its even possible. I realize that the exhaust tips are not equal length but this type of muffler is easily avaliable and cheap.

I have another idea. Alright, flowmaster makes a replacement muffler for an 82-2002 camaro that is very similar to our stock mufflers. It has dimensions of 4x9.75x15 and has an in and out on one side and an out on the other side. you can get either a 2.5 in/out or a 3 in and 2.5 outs. I really want to keep the exhaust as stocking looking as possible. I am not a fan of the canister look and really havent found any aftermarket exhaust that I like.
