Strange E58/E153 transmission question.
I am planning on doing a V6 swap. I currently have an E58 transmission, which I would like to keep. So making some assumptions, I would hope that the E58, being an E-series transmission would be able to handle the V6, but I know that I cannot use it with the current bell housing.
So the question is: Will the E153 transmission bell housing fit on the E58 transmission? Again, they are both E-series transmissions, so I'm thinking yes, but it would be nice to get confirmation. |

Well the bellhousing holds the input and output shafts, so those will also have to fit. I don't know if anyone has done this swap.
Toyota doesn't normally change the exterior design much even when the internals are changed. I found that out with my 2001 S51 and 1990 S54. Exactly the same design. Last edited by Jason.MZW20; 05-29-2009 at 06:57 PM.. Reason: It's an S51 ... lol |

Holy Crap! You're right. I thought it just held the shift fork and starter motor. I figured the input and output shafts were on the gearbox, but I just got done looking at the pictures. Hmmm. Still might fit though.
Either way, I need an E153, either for the bellhousing or to use in place of the E58. I wanted to use the E58 because I paid a bunch of money to have a limited slip installed, and having the transmission stay in the car means not having to source new driveshafts. It would also, help locate the V6. It will be very interesting to see how this pans out. Thanks for the response. |
