3VZ Tach Question...
So I've read the Tach mod sticky thread but was wondering if I can just use the tach out of my donor (92 V6 camry) car for my 3VZ swap? Thanks

You will want the actual electronic part of the tack under the face. The turbo tach face has a more accurate redline but that's not the biggest worry for me at this point.

can you compare the 3vz tach w/ the mr2? the one i got from the 1mz matches perfectly so i just had to swap the face so it may be different for you. also wear a glove when doing this, the face is easy to damage

I have a '94 Camry tach as a spare, and the circuit board is upside down. The only way to make it work is to remove the needle, assemble it to the MR2 face/plastic frame, then put the needle back on and calibrate the position with a known tach (or frequency).

So is there no way to have a plug and play tach for the 3vz? I though for sure the 3vz tach from the camry wouldn't need any calibrating
![]() Would the 97-99 1MZ V6 Camry Tach be a plug and play swap for the 3vz? Last edited by Mark_Dorman; 06-03-2009 at 08:31 PM.. |

He means that whenever you mess with the tach you just need to reset the needle by taking it out and putting it back to 0.
After I swapped the board on the back of my tach, my rpm would shoot to 1100 with just putting the key in the ignition, not starting it. So I just put the key in the ignition, removed the needle from 1100 and put it back in at 0. Then it was perfect. I don't know if you consider that plug or play or not but its very easy. |

It's usually more accurate to have known RPM above zero, but hey, if that works, they yay!
