5SFE to 1mzfe

Hello there to all

I am new to forum chat as well as I am a new Mr2 owner, I just purchased my mr2 due to the fact my partner owns an exact model mr2 such as mine, 1991 non turbo t-top, mr2, and has installed a working, shall i say it fires up, he has not finished yet his project but inspired me, just by hearing the sound of the motor in such a compact car. I would like help and direction, on how to convert my 5sfe motor 4cyl to an 1mzfe, I have the Motor from a lexus es300 98, and a mr2 1992 turbo act-hd pressure plate, I am waiting on a aluminum flywheel for a 1mzfe engine, I would like to ask any good willed forum members. If they could share some of that eating Honda's for breakfast knowledge, from what I know I need some type of ecu computer management system from some cars, Camry, Avalon, Siena, lexus, and wiring harness, My question is this, what, or which setup is the least hassle and less problem matic, I would like help, ASAP, as 2 I would like to unleash this baby onto the roads before summer 09, THnks and Pleas some HelP!

Post Parked

Well Ive been doing alot of sticky reading, and I got a rough Idea on how get get going, as I mentioned I got a 1998 1mzfe off a lexus es 300, I finally got my Fidanza 1mzfe flywheel and ACT Hd mr2 turbo pressure plate along with an ACT HD performacne Disc for a 5sfe tranny, Im going to go and use my non turbo manuel transmission give it a run till it dies, then upgrade to a Turbo tranny, along with upgrades to rodes pistons and head springs, and hopefully fill in a budget for a Turbo. Anyhow Im on my search for wiring harness, and cpu that will fire this baby up, Im trying to go to the very fine edge and also comply with local and state law. Funny Huh, not so If they ever make me pop my hood. so if any one has any knowledge to peak out this 1mzfe engine, on previous configurations on prom chips or otherwise It would be great of help. also if any one knows where to order the spark plug wires for the 98 es300 , there actually some trail plugs coils or something , don't know what there really called, any help, and the distributor, oh and almost forgot the third motor mount do i use a Camry 98 motor mount with a welding con fig, or whats best, I saw gimspters motor mount which looked pretty awesome work, welding the mount very skillful job. diagrams should be able to get, worst comes to worst get wiring diagrams for each engine and just tone, out every dbucken wire.

The correct term is coil on plug for the 3 front bank ignition coils. You should get the set of 3 wires from Toyota. There is no distributor. You need an electric igniter from a 1MZ car within the same year of your engine, harness, and ECU.

If you don't have a harness and ECU, you'll need to go to a local junkyard or order one from Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market.

Looks like you still have a lot of reading and research left to do. And you can't add a turbo and stay smog legal.

Post Progress Report Started

Well thanks a lot for the info on the coil on the spark plug, and ignite r, I will check with my local dismantling shops and c if they have what I'm looking for, I have this build in a economic project, I'm going Jew on the project, Nickel and Dime it, I got My Performance front and Rear rotors, Drilled and slutted, in today, along with some coil-overs From Tein, basic Dampers, I was reading the manuals and Tein co. states that it is completely Illegal to install on street driven Vehicle, but i guess everyone breaks the law at some point in there lifetime, Oh and also I have a spare of Nology wire set"new" for a 1993 es300 lexus, I dont know what it translates to in engine code, I was thinking there's no way in incorporate them into the 1mzfe, if not oh well Hopefully someone needs them and buys them, i also have brand new in the bag unopened 5sfe Nology wires, with spark plugs if anyone is interested. I'm no Mechanic but I'm prity sure I got some useful parts here, The ones helping me out on my build is my partner and pops who are mechanics I'm just playing the part of the helper and learner, any who, I will post more pictures once i upgrade this baby, and hopefully I get the parts I need and finish this sucker off. Until the Next Progress Report

Post Progress Report 2

well here it is I originally planned to use tein basic coilovers, but decide to go with megan racing coilovers, due to the fact i have megan control arms and megan tension rods, with trail arms, all megan racing, the picture is crappy, I will update photos as soon as im finished with my project. Also to those who been thru this road I have my engine on the stand, no pic sry , been lzy, I have a few questions, My engine block 1mzfe is a 1996 block out of a lexus es300, I have purchased a wiring harness from a 1997 lexus es300 I decided to go thru a dismantler service, i got from them the engine wiring Harness, with the coil over spark plug, setup is 3 coilover front banks, and 3 spark plugs rear banks, I got the igniter along with the Mass airflow sensor, I also have the o2 senors from a 96 es300, My problem is that the 97 wiring harness plugs with not match up to the sensors on my 96 block, now! < My question is this if I get a 1996 wiring harness, and reroute the pins on the ecu end will all the components work properly in theory. Also any Knowledge on where to get the mount for the right passenger side for the engine to the chassis. for 1mzfe to 1991 .

Post Progress Report 3

Well here are some pictures of the work I am doing Got engine on the stand. I got my headers, I got my coilovers I got some Tein basic Dampers and Megan Racing Coilovers. I Decided to go Megan as due to the fact I got megan control arms and trail arms, I also have All Black Megan Racing SEats, but I have the Torino 2 Sparco Racing Seats Im going Sparco I also have TW Magnum Shift Knob. with short shifter.

Well this is what ive been doing I just have to finish painting my valve covers, I have everything ready to install, I just have a few questions to whomever is willing to part the information I Finally found an engine wiring harness that fits the sensors on the engine injectors on my 96 1mzfe engine block from a es300 and so on, wiring harness is from a camry v6 2000, I have an extra wiring harness from a 97 es300 which does not fit my engine sensors injectors ext. I have the ECU from the same 97 es300 My Only obstacle seems to be will The ECU I currently have 97 es300 work with 2000 camry v6 wiring harness the ends on the 2000 camry wiring harness does not line up with the 97 es300 ECU, My question is if I pin out every wire on the ECU side will it work I will greatly appreciate anyones feedback also here is a picture of a mr2 shell I bought a real bargain I bought it as a Mr2 wide body kit, I will be installing my extra teins on this as well as any extra parts Laying around, I will have this one on a different thread as it is a whole different project.

The 97-98 Camry 1MZ ECUs are NOT compatible with 99+ wiring harness due to the different shape of the ECU plugs. If the 97 ES300 ECU is the same "generation" as the 97 Camry (it probably is), then you have a problem.
You *need* a matching ECU & harness.

Lightbulb Response to Help

Well my situation is I have a 1996 es300 block I have 2 sets of wiring harnessess, one is a 1997 es300 wiring harness which plugs into the ECU out of the same wiring harness 97 es300, but the problem with this wiring harness is that the sensors dont match up with any of the plugs on the block, I have a 2000 Camry V6 wiring harness with No ECU which does match up on the Blocks end the senors injectors and stuff, my questions is, I have wiring diagrams for bot wiring harnessess and the ECU I have. My question is can I butcher up the wiring harness each wire by wire pin by pin and reroute the wires to the proper pin out on the ECU.

Sure you could do that. It might be easier to splice the necessary connectors from the 2000 harness onto the 97 harness, though.

It's close, but the passenger side axle inner tripod joint does clear the 1mz block. Depending on what year 1mz your rear manifold is from, the flange on THAT may interfere with the tripod joint.

Post Progress Report Pre final

Hello there to All, its been a LONG LOng time since i have had an update man i tought my deadline was this summer but man let me tell you, well first of all its a tough one I Finally installed the sucker in the car I have pic, I will update, soon i just havent had the chance, the engine is in it as a bh to start just a recap i am using a lexus es300 96 block with 99 manifold off a avalon with 97 es300 lexus wiring harness with ecu off 97 lexus es 300, thnak goodness the ecu didnt have an imobilizer, or would have bee done deal, first of all i had to call a good budy to figure out the schematics which by the way was a bh to read and integrate into the mr2, first we gave power to the starter which turned the motor wouldnt start we made sure we had spark and fuel pressure, on key turn the fuel pump was not turning on which was a headache to figure out, figures out we didnt have constant power line connected to ecu which tells the fuel pump to stay on, same with injectors we mad sure we had spark same they needed constant power wire hooked up to ecu, which finally turned on the engine, at this point the engine with transmission are linked the car goes into gear, but im not getting the response i believe i should get, the cars bogs down for some reason im not able to burn rubber, we are analyzing the situation, if anyone has tips or help appreciate it, I belieave maybe the because im using the s54 tranny with the 1mzfe flywheel, its not grabbing, but i think that shouldnt matter because enought meet grabs, it might be an improper install on the throw out bearing ??, my Buddy says it bogs down because one i wals using double platinum bosch plus2 plugs he said i should go orignial, so i went and bought them, and 2nd he says that inproper install of fuel pump or not enought fuel pressure which is causing the engine to bog down, !!1m so again i have purchased an v6 supra turbo fuel pump and im anxious to install and find out if that is the problem for so much power loss, the engine i feel is reving good and when i let go of the clutch it grabs i fell but it go rrrrrrand take off but in a smooth motion not a fast g force motion , either way, im anxious to try, also i have secound issue with smog how i pass it, !!! MAN iw ill continue with explanation on my next report whic when i will post my pictures here, to show off ,, any help and comments will be appreceated 1!!
