V6 mpg, better than bmw?

my previous car was bmw 325i (e30), before it blew up and i went back to my toyota roots i was opting for a s52 swap (bmw engine) because many owners of this swap was averaging 26-30mpg. The 1mzfe produces almost the same power as the bmw engine and the sw20 mr2 is almost the same weight as a stock e30 325i. so my question for you sw20 v6 owners is whats your average mpg? your input helps, thanks
p.s. does anyone know how much the 1mzfe weighs? ive tried to search but i cant find accurate weight of that or the 3sgte -_-

3vz = iron block = 469 lbs
1mz = aluminum block = 401 lbs
2gr = aluminum block+plastic intake manifold = 369 lbs.

Here are the links I found while searching. The 2gr I found weights between 358-369
2gr weight:

Here is the link where I found the 1mz/3vz weight, it is a good read for all V6 swappers, especially the 1mz folk.

Thanks to Gimpster for preserving the above link

I'm getting about the same mpg as my 5s, 20-25 but that includes auto-xing, heavy driving, etc.

It really depends on your tranny too. When I cruise on the highway above 75, i swear im getting 15 mpg max but thats because I went with the shorter geared S-54 non turbo tranny but its better for auto-x.

As for the 3s-gte I've found people saying it weighs 413 on forums but I haven't found any actual source. Then there is the intercooler, piping, turbo/manifold, etc.

Just an FYI:

Because of the variation in transaxle usage (S54, S51, E53, and E153) you'll likely get different averages. The S54 will show the lowest average MPG because of its low gearing. The S51, E53, and E153 will be similar, with perhaps the S51 edging out the Es because of lighter internals.

The rest of the difference will be because of intake and exhaust routing, maybe even chassis differences (rims, tires, options, etc.), and driving habits.

Solara V6 5MT; 20c/28hwy; 3120lbs curb (official EPA estimates)

MR2 V6 (3VZ/1MZ); 18-22c/25-31hwy (estimates); 2750-3000lbs curb

The Solara isn't much heavier than the heaviest MR2, surprisingly.

And my 1MZ weighed 401lbs, wet, with the power steering pump and A/C compressor, and no flywheel or flex plate on a heavy duty wooden pallet.

The power steering pump is ~7lbs (removed), the A/C is about 20lbs, dry. The pallet it was on added ~10lbs. So, it's still about 400lbs without the power steering pump and pallet with a lightweight flywheel (9lbs).

thanks for the weight info! couldnt find it anywhere, arent the 4age and 3sgte motors around 350lbs??

i think i mightve confused you because the s52 is a BMW motor that i was referring i was going to drop into my bmw. the gear ratio is interesting of you to bring up though because i heard that that engine got such good mpg because of its gearing and its torque it produces

if your getting 20 around town with a heavy foot then im in =D
hopefully that means around 30 on the freeway and an average of 24-26 which im down for

i probably get an average of 24 with my 3vz and s54. if you drive light you can do better

btw weight isnt everything when comparing mpgs

frontal area and aero is a huge factor - the mr2's is small and low. my porsche 944 turbo also had a small front area and was amazing on the highway

its not everything but its an easy way to get power plus milage, i want to try to get the car to 2500 lbs but i dont think its achievable because theres not a whole lot to get rid of. ill have to find the weight of the 3sgte, i hear the 1mz is lighter but at 400 lbs it doesnt sound that much lighter. a 4 cylinder weighing roughly 400-450? thats nuts

i havent thought about aerodynamics though, i figured since that they are so low that there wouldnt be a whole lot to improve

Not at all. I always came across the BMW S motors while searching for Toyota S transaxle gear ratios in Google. Like the BMW S54 in the E46 M3 would always pop up when I searched for the Toyota S54 transaxle updates a while back. It's funny.

I just wanted you to know that some guys will be using different transaxles with their V6 swaps. And the S52 is also an older Toyota transaxle as well, but thankfully, we only deal with the S51/S54 here.
