1MZ: Brake booster vacuum barb relocation
No additional parts should be necessary.
What you need: (1) 10mm long reach socket or wrench Permatex Ultra Gray RTV or similar The 1MZ has (2) threaded vacuum barb holes on the intake manifold for use with the brake booster. 1 for LHD 1MZ vehicles and 1 for RHD 1MZ vehicles. Our 1MZs here in the U.S. will undoubtedly have the LHD barb in place, which is on the back of the intake plenum, just after the throttle body. The RHD hole, located on the ACIS plate at the far right of the intake manifold, is blocked with a 10mm (head size) bolt. Both the barb and bolt will need the sealant on the threads replaced: use a little RTV on the threads and do not overtighten. ------- 1) Here is the original location of the LHD brake booster vacuum connection. As you can see, I used the bolt previously used on the ACIS plate to block this vacuum hole. I used a bit too much RTV on the threads as well. ![]() 2) This is the end result of swapping the barb into this position: you are able to use the stock brake booster hose and piping in the MKII chassis. ![]() ------- My 1MZ is a 2000 Solara 1MZ made in North America. Please let me know if your ACIS plate does NOT have the bolt in place for a threaded vacuum barb. |
