V6 Starter
It does not fit
![]() the battery terminal hits the shifter support bracket and the signal to the starter will hit the lever preventing you from shifting to 1st and 2nd. This was done on a e153 but not sure if it will work on the s54 |

I've been sitting on a real nice 1MZ starter for five years.
Anybody need a starter for their Camry or Avalon or Sienna? ![]() |

This ain't reading between the lines here. You can NOT use the FWD starters. You MUST use an MR2 (or similar, if there even is one) starter. You can use a Turbo starter, but the N/A starter has more power. There are lots of folks using the Turbo starter, so don't everybody jump all over me for knocking it. But, "technically", the N/A starter is better.

great, that's good stuff to know. in my quest for knowledge before i get started on anything, i would not have given the starter a second thought until it was too late.

28100-74050 is listed as 1.4kw power for the 3sgte
28100-74070 is listed as 1.4kw power for the 5sfe however, 28100-74050 is listed as 1.6kw power for the 5sfe Not sure if there is an error in the EPC or there are two different 74050 starters... BTW, The 3vz and 97-01 1MZ both only have 1.4kw starters. [edit] There are different armature & clutch parts listed for the 5sfe starter - normal and "cold spec". I would guess the "cold spec" is the 1.6kw variant of the 74050. So technically, only some NA starters may be better than turbo starters. Last edited by JimKing; 10-13-2009 at 02:43 AM.. |

Jason says the 1.6kw starter is "much larger". So hey, if you want to go faster, you better swap out that heavy cold package starter for a lighter 1.4kw one!

I've never seen a 3SGTE starter, but between the two 5SFE starters, the 1.6kw has a longer yoke casing and is heavier.
