When it comes to MKI's, the best values are found in local For Sale magazines or craigslist.org . Often you'll find nice cars owned by people that just want to get rid of them because they're old, and can't imagine how much some people are willing to pay for these cars

really that is about as far as I care. Color is not that important, mileage isnt that important, I have enough money to buy most mk1s on here and what I am willing to pay is dependent upon the car. Thats really about it.

This is a tough time of year to buy one - most of the good ones will be sold in the spring. However if you have patience, you can probably find something. If you buy one from the south, you will have no problem with rust - it just doesn't occur on cars from here (as long as you are at least 50 miles away from the ocean). Of course a totally rust free 17-21 year old car will rust VERY quickly after even one winter of salt and snow, so I will try not to get on my soapbox about people buying rust free south cars and taking them up north and drving them year round...making them basically a north car after a winter or two.
Anyway, I have (2) I could sell, but neither is what you are looking for - both are t-bar and one is an auto. BTW, I wouldn't buy one with the brown interior either...what was Toyota thinking? Either way, I will let you know if I see something like you are looking for locally. |

Well as hard as it seems to find even one in my area, I might be interested in your manual trans car. Where are you located? I have no plans to drive this during winter as it is a weekend car and will be stored when snow comes. That interior is hideous! I had never seen it before until a few days ago and almmost thought that it had been painted.

I also live in the midwest (Wisconsin) and no I won't sell you my mr2 mk1 (Unless you really were going to give me loads and loads of money for it!). It was hard enough to find! I think what some people on the boards here don't understand is that an mr2 mk1 in the midwest is extremely rare. And finding one in good condition is even harder.
I spent months looking on cars.com, autotrader.com and craigslist.org just trying to find one for sale within a reasonable driving distance. I spent a lot of time driving here and there looking at bad cars whos owners where asking too much for. I finally found a car whos owner was asking very little for so I bought it. Oddly enough, for a northern car, it has no rust on the wheel wells (all original metal), just a little on the trunk lid? Odd. My point is this, you are going to have a really hard time finding a mr2 mk1 up here for anything reasonable. You are going to have an even harder time finding one in good condition. Me, I got lucky. You're best bet is to fly somewhere where they are more common and drive it back. The price of the plane ticket and the price of gas to drive it back will still be cheaper than the notoriously high prices of mr2 mk1s up here. And you'll probably get a rust free(er) car. |

Down here (TN) I could spend one good day and come up with maybe (5) RX7's for sale just from riding around or looking in a local trade paper. He would come with a couple friends, buy some cars and drive them all back. MKI's are really common here too, but most of them are currently abandoned in people's back yard. People here tend to buy only late model cars and if their MR2 had an issue, they simply parked it and got something else (newer). Of course there are exceptions...both of my MKI's have never been down - always in service since new (which accounts for the mileage they have). This is the case with true MR2 entusiasts...we would never abandon an MKI! |

I am still looking. My avaliable money just keeps growing every week. Someone sell me a very clean Mk1. I am willing to drive as long as I can do a round trip in one day. I would really like one that is in nice running condition, but if the body is good that is more important.
