***** SELLER DOES NOT NEED TO BE LOCAL!***** I am willing to travel!
Just like the title says.. I'm looking for either a Tropical Blue or Steel Mist Grey 1994 or 1995 MR2. N/A preferred, turbo o.k., but I'm definitely not looking to blow $15k on it. No other particular requirements.. the cleaner the better, but I'm willing to fix one up, too. Must be one of those two colors, though! e-mail or PM me! conor42 (at) gmail.com Also available on AIM: conorpsr Thanks! |

Both are quite rare. I only know of 5 total Tropical Blue MR2s in the States. Ozmandias on this board has a Trop Blue 94 turbo. There is a turbo in the bay area. There's one that was totaled, and a 94 NA in Ohio (think the mileage was around 145k), and the one in Alabama that sold around 6 months ago (not in the best condition). I'm sure there are a few more out there, but I've been looking for a tropical blue for a long time and that's all I've seen so far. I'm sure there are quite a few that never make an appearance of the forums, autotrader, ebay, etc. There were 199 NA's in 95, and I've only seen ads for about 25% of them since I've been tracking them. I'm sure there is a sweet one hiding out there somewhere.
![]() Come to think of it, the SMG is about as rare in the later years. I actually have a 94 SMG hardtop (NA ofcourse). There was a really low miles SMG turbo (under 30k miles) that's been for sale a couple of times, but they wanted a lot for it. I check the 94+ ads often (almost daily), so I'll keep a lookout for you. I'll try to get in touch with the guy in Ohio that had the trop blue NA. He's considered selling it a few times, but I was never able to get any pics worth anything from him. All I can suggest is have cash in hand and be ready to buy the minute you see it. I put a deposit on the 94 SMG within the first hour it was posted and there were quite a few that tried to buy it after I did. I bought the car sight unseen. ![]()

Thanks Brian.
![]() I'd really prefer a '95 in particular (I mean, hey.. if we're spending a bunch of extra money, it might as well be the very last, rarest one, right?)... My fiancee will happily go for the right car, if it presents itself. But yeah.. I've noticed how few and far between the SMG and Tropical Blue ones are. I suppose that's part of the allure. Black/Red/White cars are common, though.. and SMG/Tropical Blue stand out from the crowd even among new cars. I recall a Tropical Blue '94NA that popped up last year.. it was pretty beaten, but there it was. I don't remember what happened to it, either.. I know that it sat for sale for a few months at the $7k range, though. A Turbo is only in the cards if the seller doesn't know what they're selling, really.. (i.e. we're not going to drop $15k on an MR2). But an n/a.. that's a different story. ![]() Last edited by conor; 02-20-2007 at 01:43 AM.. |

I'm quite familiar with that car. Two different friends of mine in Atlanta used to own it. I looked at the car again when it was up for sale by that seller and passed on the purchase at the sellers offering price of $4000. I offered $3500, and even that was more than I wanted to go on it and only offered that simply because it was tropical blue. It suffered a side impact accident back in 1995 and it needed A LOT of work for other problems as well, but it definitely is a stunning color in person. That car is now in North Carolina.

Ohh.. thanks for the heads-up on the damage.. I should probably pass on it, then, since I'd be buying it sight unseen. You're right though, I'd only consider it because of the color.
I've actually tracked down the current owner of it, too.. phone number and all. Hrm.. Ah well, maybe holding out for a '95 will be that much sweeter.. ![]() |
