Why, and how, to mod your brake systems!

Hey that's pretty good info. I always thought it was your foot that stopped the car, hehe. Course I think your foot is also your boost limiter and traction control, hah.

It's almost a little overwhelming isn't it.
A friend of mine actually put together a spreadsheet to figure out the pounds of clamping force he had at each corner of his RX7 and is using that to balance his time trials car. |

I've been getting GRM for years now and have read these articles before. I have reduced as much "compliance" as possible(SS lines, synthetic fluid and master cylinder brace), found a good compound with the ceramic Axxis ULTRA's and employ the slotting. I drive over a 2 lane curvy road almost daily and in the rain for a few months out of the year. The setup I have currently works 100% better than stock with great pedal modulation and no front end lock up which is a typical of most MK1 MR2's. Thanks again, Greg aka: Japanese Lotus |

Excellent info...Gairloch
But unfortunately I recieved my powerslot front rotors and keeping it stock in the rear. But after reading the article I would reconsider the hype of slotted and cross drilled rotors. Here is another question i have..... Will the 1992+ calipers fix our mk1's?? I noticed they have the 2 piston barrel vs. the one piston barrel on the mk1. |

brakes are the first line of safety, you won't hit anything if you can stop in time

I have only owned my 85 for a month so I am a newb....
But just ordered a complete set of slotted drilled for my 85 with ceramic pads - found them on Ebay.. $135 for the set of Ultimate rotors and $79 for the ceramic pads, plus shippings... Cquence Motorsports - High Performance Brake Rotors The old ones were plain and what came on the car when I got it and rusty and glazed. I dont race and I think these will look nice and do the job also. Cost was about $240 shipped for front+rear+brake+pads.. Will have them in about a week and let everyone know how they feel and look if interested. |

Yeah, sure did... AFTER they were ordered.... although I am not disputing the validity of the articles, and concur they are undoubetedly accurate; I am of the opinion that I have not made a bad decision, just not the BEST decision per status quo. My wallet likes it....
![]() My real reason for posting was only to find out if there was someone who has also made that same decision as I did from this company or any others like them ... and get their opinion. Either way, I will have them on my '85 within 2 weeks and post on my first impressions. |

After flogging the MK1 factory brakes in two 14 hour endurance races, I don't see any reason to 'upgrade'. If your wheels expose the calipers, maybe powder-coat them for looks.
